This Christmas, our teams across the country have gone above and beyond to spread kindness and joy in the communities we work in. From Christmas jumper days and giving trees to hospital donations and community lunches, here’s some of the ways our teams have made a difference this festive season.
First up, our team working on the Southsea Coastal Scheme embraced the Christmas spirit with a Christmas jumper day in support of Save the Children. Alongside this, the team donated chocolate advent calendars to the children’s ward at Queen Alexandra Hospital, plus chocolates and sweets for the staff. A wonderful way to share Christmas smiles!
Over at VolkerMarine Services and VolkerSite Services, the teams launched a Christmas Giving Tree to collect toys for local children in need through the Salvation Army. Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, the initiative was a huge success! When the Salvation Army came to collect the donations from our Morecambe office, they were overwhelmed by the response.
In Littleborough, the team donated 230 Christmas selection boxes to the children at Smithy Bridge Primary School. The joy on the children’s faces and the heartfelt thanks from teachers showed just how much this gesture meant.
Our Leigh and Hildenborough team added a festive twist to their recent community catch-up, welcoming local residents for a project update over mince pies and Christmas biscuits. And that’s not all, our wonderful neighbours next to the Hildenborough site joined forces with us to collect toys for the local Toy Bank. The generosity shown was incredible, and the thoughtfulness of the children who donated their own toys truly impressed us.
Christmas came early at our Pevensey to Eastbourne interim beach management programme, where our team supported a local group of older residents at their annual Christmas Lunch. We provided wine, fruit juice, and chocolate gift bags for each guest, a small gesture that brought big smiles, festive music, and plenty of laughter. The team also supported Warming up the Homeless, a frontline charity supporting homeless people on the South Coast. They donated clothing, blankets, bags, and baby items as well as a £500 donation through our Community Giving Pot.
The Liverpool Culverts team worked to organise charitable donations for several local charities, including MICAH, The Hope Foundation, NBIL CIC, and Feeding Liverpool’s Winter Boost Appeal. These organisations provide vital support, from Christmas meals for the homeless to fresh fruit and veg for struggling families. Our team delivered food and hygiene products across the city. Our donations to NBIL will help create over 300 Christmas hampers, while other contributions will provide warm spaces and three-course Christmas dinners for those without a home.
For the second year running, our head office supported Chorley Help the Homeless, an independent charity local to Preston that helps those at risk of or affected by homelessness in the Borough of Chorley. We donated a range of food, drinks, and toiletries to support their vital work in the community.
Christmas Jumper Day in Kendal was full of festive spirit! Everyone wore their jumpers to support the project’s charity of the year, Andy’s Man Club, a men’s suicide prevention charity.
Finally, in Preston and South Ribble, the team donated 150 selection boxes to the paediatric ward at Royal Preston Hospital, helping to brighten the season for young patients and their families.
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to these amazing initiatives. Your generosity and community spirit truly make a difference.
