VolkerSite Services supports adaptive athlete Cat Yearron on her journey to the CrossFit Games

The team at VolkerSite Services (VSS) are proud to share their recent involvement in helping Cat Yearron, an inspiring Adaptive athlete, prepare for the Adaptive CrossFit Games in Las Vegas this September.

Cat became a full-time wheelchair user in 2005 following a life-changing accident. Since then, she has shown remarkable determination to excel in everything she does. In August 2024, she joined the CrossFit community at Hotbox as their first Adaptive athlete. After nearly a year of intense training and dedication, Cat has officially qualified to compete on the global stage.

Rather than simply offering a donation, VSS worked closely with Cat and her coach to identify meaningful ways to support her journey. Together, the team delivered two key contributions:

1. Wheelchair Modification for Safer Lifting

To enhance Cat’s performance and safety during weightlifting, the team funded a modification to her adaptive CrossFit wheelchair. The addition of a fifth wheel prevents the chair from tipping backward, allowing Cat to lift with greater confidence and stability.

2. Custom Pull-Up Bar for Functional Training

Recognising the importance of accessibility in training, the team also fabricated a bespoke pull-up bar tailored to Cat’s height and needs. Our talented welder, Kenny Escolme, measured the gym rig and used in-house fabrication equipment to cut and form steel offcuts. After welding, trial fitting, and adjustments, the bar was powder-coated and delivered to Cat—unlocking a wider range of functional movements that were previously out of reach

Cat thanked the VSS team for their contributions and support saying: “I’m truly grateful for your generous support in adapting my equipment. The adjustable pull-up bar has given me the versatility I need to improve my skills and conditioning, and the fifth-wheel attachment on my wheelchair now allows me to lift overhead with confidence—significantly enhancing my strength training.

“These aren’t just pieces of equipment; they’re essential tools that support my development as I prepare for the Adaptive CrossFit Games and continue my journey in adaptive sport. Thank you for being part of it.”

“We’re incredibly proud to support Cat on her journey to the Adaptive CrossFit Games. Her determination and resilience are truly inspiring, and it’s been a privilege for our team to contribute in a meaningful way. We were happy to collaborate with Cat and her coach to ensure she has the tools she needs to succeed. Everyone at VSS is cheering her on as she competes on the global stage.”

These adaptations have made a tangible difference in Cat’s training and competition readiness.

We wish Cat all the best of luck with her training and competitions.
