Supporting the community and sustainability at the Rochdale and Littleborough FRMS
Our team working on the Rochdale and Littleborough Flood Risk Management Scheme, on behalf of the Environment Agency, has recently donated felled timber to a local charity.

The Petrus charity provides residential and day support services to people who are homeless or in housing need in the Rochdale area. They have creatively repurposed the timber to build a nature walkway at Greave House, one of Petrus’ supported housing projects. Earlier this year, the team also donated wood chippings to the charity, which have now been used to complete the walkway, creating a tranquil area for their residents to enjoy.

In addition to the community engagement the team welcomed a group of Japanese delegates to site, including academics, government officials and business leaders. They were also joined by representatives from the Environment Agency, Rochdale Borough Council and Murphy.
The visit was organised by the Department for Business and Trade, with the purpose to showcase natural flood management and biodiversity net gain projects in Rochdale, including our Littleborough to Rochdale Flood Risk Management Scheme.
It was an insightful day of knowledge exchange, where attendees explored flood risk management practices in England, and discussed how these approaches compare to those used in Japan.
