National Apprenticeship Week 2026 – Meet Henry Hodge
As part of National Apprenticeship Week, we’re continuing our series of apprentice interviews by speaking with Henry Hodge, an apprentice Site Engineer in our C2V team. Henry’s hands-on apprenticeship is giving him practical engineering skills while contributing to meaningful, real-world projects. He shared his thoughts on learning through experience, developing confidence, and what he’s discovered about working in the engineering industry.
What does your apprenticeship mean to you?
“My apprenticeship means the opportunity to learn by doing, to develop practical skills while contributing to real projects that improve people’s lives.”
What do you enjoy most about being an apprentice?
“The best part is getting to blend real-world experience with hands-on learning every day.”
Henry spends much of his time out on site, where he sees first-hand how projects come together:
“You’re working alongside experienced engineers who show you the ropes and the qualities of a good engineer.”
This day-to-day mix of theory, problem-solving, and real project involvement has helped Henry quickly deepen his understanding of the field.
What skills have you developed through your apprenticeship so far?
“The apprenticeship has taught me practical engineering skills, how to work effectively on-site, and the importance of teamwork and communication. It’s helped me grow in confidence and understand how projects develop from design to completion."
Looking ahead
Henry’s journey highlights what apprenticeships do best: build capability, confidence, and professional understanding through real experience. His ambition, curiosity, and hands-on learning approach show exactly why apprentices play such a vital role in the future of engineering.
