VolkerGround Engineering Delivers Low-Vibration Sheet Piling Solution at Sizewell C
Since December 2025, VolkerGround Engineering has been supporting the Civil Works Alliance in delivering a temporary sea defence for the southern section of the Sizewell C project.
Working in close proximity to the live Sizewell B power station introduced a significant challenge, with strict vibration limits rendering traditional piling methods unviable as the works progressed. To overcome this, the team deployed the Giken Supercrush Silent Piler.
The Giken Supercrush Silent Piler combines augering and pile installation into a single operation, significantly reducing vibration while removing the need for pre-augering. As a result, sheet piles can be installed to the required depth in one continuous process, eliminating the need for additional driving works previously required.
Using the Giken Supercrush Silent Piler, the team has successfully installed sheet piles of up to 19 metres in length for the temporary sea defence wall, all while remaining fully compliant with the vibration limits on site.
