The project, carried out on behalf of the Environment Agency, spans several key locations and involves 6km of flood defences using a combination of walls finished mainly in local stone, grass embankments and integrated sections of glass panels, as well as a new improved pumping station. Once completed the scheme will better protect 1,920 homes and 2,250 businesses from the impact of flooding.

The team earned innovation points for implementing the Spiral Flush technique—a patented piling method designed for down-the-hole (DTH) drilling. This advanced approach expertly manages high-pressure air by redirecting it sideways and upward within the casing, effectively flushing out cuttings while preventing air from escaping into the surrounding ground. By containing debris during the drilling process, the technique safeguarded the River Kent from pollution and protected nearby homes and businesses from potential damage.

The CCS report read: “The project has been established for a number of years and continues to consistently preform at a very high level. The attention to the appearance is exceptional with a range of measures to ensure the site remains tidy and professional and that the workforce project a professional appearance.”

It continued: “Community contact and interaction is extensive. Examples of good will were noted as well as contributions to the community and community support in the local area. Overall, an excellent project and an excellent example of considerate practice in the construction industry.”

Congratulations to the Kendal Flood Risk Management Scheme team, this is an excellent achievement and acknowledgement of the dedication to raise industry standards.
