VolkerStevin hosts first Constructing Change event in the South East
We were proud to host the first Constructing Change event in the South East at our Michelham Priory project, alongside colleagues from JBA Bentley and Mott MacDonald.
Constructing Change is a social value initiative which helps inspire the next generation of construction professionals. It provides young people with hands-on experience of the industry and raises awareness of the wide range of career opportunities available. The programme has a strong focus on improving diversity across the sector, supporting female students as well as young people from disadvantaged communities and a range of ethnic backgrounds.
We welcomed 12 female students from Hailsham Academy, who gained practical insight into the industry through a range of interactive activities. These included surveying with a dumpy level, learning lifting operation hand signals, and taking part in engineering challenges designed to develop teamwork and problem-solving skills.
Having hosted the launch of Constructing Change at our Littleborough Flood Risk Management Scheme last year, it was particularly special to welcome the initiative to the South East for the first time.
"Hosting the first Constructing Change event in the South East was a fantastic opportunity to engage with local students and showcase the wide variety of careers available within construction. Creating a lasting legacy beyond our project work is important to us, and we hope we have inspired some of the engineers of the future."
