Our team working on the New Wear Footbridge, on behalf of Sunderland City Council, recently spent the day volunteering at Holding Hands Northeast, a local charity shop in Sunderland.

Holding Hands is dedicated to empowering and supporting vulnerable individuals, particularly women and young people, by providing mental health support, mentorship, employability training, and safe space programmes.
As part of their volunteering day, the team donated and installed a new pinboard to help the charity better promote its events and activities. They also provided and set up a fitting room and bookcases.
In addition to these donations, the team helped reorganise the shop, sorting and displaying women’s, men’s, and children’s shoes and clothing. They also created an Easter themed window display, complete with mannequins dressed in seasonal outfits.
Holding Hands were thoroughly impressed by the team. We hope these efforts will help increase footfall to the shop, which plays a key role in funding the charity’s ongoing work in the community.
