Inspiring future talent - Welcoming students to our sites
At the heart of our work lies a commitment to shaping not just infrastructure, but the future of engineering and construction.
Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting two enthusiastic students—Rhys and Dhuvraj—at our Rother Tidal Walls East and Leigh Flood Storage Area projects, offering them a hands-on glimpse into the world of civil engineering.
Rhys at Rother Tidal Walls East
Rhys joined the team at Rother Tidal Walls East in Rye for a week of immersive work experience. Under the guidance of his mentor, Patrick Jeffrey, Rhys shadowed various team members and quickly became a valued part of the crew. Patrick praised his enthusiasm and willingness to get involved, noting that Rhys brought energy and curiosity to every task.
From observing site operations to engaging with the team, Rhys gained a strong understanding of how the project is being delivered—and left with a deeper appreciation for the engineering profession.
Dhuvraj at Leigh Flood Storage Area
Meanwhile, at the Leigh Flood Storage Area, 15-year-old Dhuvraj from Thamesview School in Kent explored the many facets of a large-scale infrastructure project. Over the course of his week, he worked alongside engineers, planners, quantity surveyors, and the customer experience team—experiencing both the technical and collaborative sides of project delivery.
Reflecting on his time with us, Dhuvraj shared: “It was really interesting to see how everything works together. I didn’t realise how many different jobs were involved in a project like this. Everyone was really friendly and explained things really well—it’s made me think more about what I might want to do in the future.”
We’re proud to support and inspire the next generation of talent in construction and engineering. By opening our sites to students like Rhys and Dhuvraj, we’re not only sharing knowledge—we’re helping shape the future of our industry.
A big thank you to everyone who supported these placements.
