Walking for a cause – Across the sands of Morecambe Bay
Last weekend, our team from the Kendal Flood Risk Management Scheme (VolkerStevin, Environment Agency and Jacobs) and their families took on a truly memorable challenge — crossing the iconic Morecambe Bay, guided safely by the King’s Guide.
Morecambe Bay, known as Monks Road, has been a public highway since the 1500s, but its beauty comes with danger — shifting quicksands and fast tides can make it a treacherous path. Despite a weekend weather warning for thunderstorms and heavy rain, the Kendal team pressed on with determination and care. Thankfully, the skies cleared, the tides stayed kind, and the walk was a great success.
This wasn’t just a walk — it was a step toward something bigger. Every footstep helped raise funds for Andy’s Man Club, the Kendal’s team charity of the year. This vital organisation offers free support groups for men across the UK, helping break the stigma around mental health and encouraging open conversations in safe spaces.
So far this year, the team has raised over £2,500 — and counting!
A huge thank you to everyone who walked, donated, and supported.
