Supporting Local Journalism Students Through the Keel Crossing Project
At VolkerStevin, we’re proud to see the Keel Crossing continuing to inspire stories beyond its construction. Recently, we had the opportunity to support journalism students from the University of Sunderland as part of their coursework.
Two students, Cici Qiao and Thomas Thirkell, reached out to learn more about the significance of the project and why it was such a meaningful milestone for our team. Cici interviewed Olivia Murray, Customer Experience Coordinator, who shared insights about the bridge and its role in Sunderland’s regeneration. Thomas spoke with Darren Jones and Darren Edmends, gaining first-hand perspectives from those closely involved in the project. Their articles will be published on Spark, the university’s media platform.
This collaboration is a great example of how we deliver social value in different ways - by supporting education and giving future journalists real-world experiences. We’re delighted to play a small part in helping students develop their skills while showcasing the positive impact of the Keel Bridge on the local community.
