SRE Woking Maintenance Delivery Unit
VolkerSite Services successfully delivered a new semi-permanent accommodation facility for Southern Renewals Enterprise's (SRE) Woking Maintenance Delivery Unit. As part of the Southern Integrated Delivery (SID), VolkerFitzpatrick manages the Buildings and Civils portfolio for Network Rail. In collaboration with VolkerFitzpatrick and SRE, the team developed a modular solution that met a challenging programme while maintaining high standards of quality, safety and compliance.
Purpose
SRE required a high-quality accommodation solution for the Woking Maintenance Delivery Unit that could be delivered within a demanding timeframe. As the first project delivered within this workstream, close collaboration with stakeholders was essential to develop a solution that met programme, specification and budget requirements while providing a modern and functional environment for end users.
What We Did
Working closely with SRE’s Building & Civils business partner, VolkerFitzpatrick, the VolkerSite Services team helped develop the building layout and specification before assessing the market and identifying the most suitable solution. Following a detailed evaluation process, a specialist modular building solution was selected that aligned with the project's programme and performance requirements.
Using its specialist knowledge of the welfare and accommodation sector, VolkerSite Services guided the project through every stage, from initial concept and detailed design through to manufacture, installation and commissioning. Strong collaboration between SRE, supply chain partners and project stakeholders ensured the project was delivered smoothly and efficiently.
The project also saw the team coordinate the design process between the client and manufacturer, helping to ensure a seamless delivery process throughout.
The modular approach adopted by VolkerSite Services significantly reduced delivery timescales, enabling occupation within the required programme while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and compliance.

The completed facility is now fully operational and occupied, with positive feedback received from the teams using the accommodation. The success of the project strengthened relationships with SRE and created further opportunities to support future facilities within the programme.
