Rother Tidal Walls East cycles 176 miles for charity

Our Rother Tidal Walls East team, alongside colleagues from the Environment Agency and AtkinsRéalis, cycled a combined 176 miles to raise funds for the Dame Vera Lynn Children's Charity and Teens Unite Fighting Cancer. Together, they raised more than £1,100, which will be shared equally between the two charities.

Using an exercise bike on site, team members took turns throughout the day to complete the 176-mile challenge. The distance represented the round trip from our project site to both charities and back. In total, 20 team members got in the saddle to help raise vital funds for two worthwhile causes.

The Dame Vera Lynn Children's Charity supports children under five living with cerebral palsy and other motor learning impairments. The charity has particular significance for the team, having recently supported the family of one of our colleagues.

Teens Unite Fighting Cancer helps improve the lives of teenagers and young adults living with and beyond cancer, empowering them to live positively and reach their full potential beyond their diagnosis.

A huge well done to everyone involved. The team spirit throughout the day was fantastic, with those not taking part in the cycling challenge cheering on their colleagues and helping to keep morale high when tired legs began to set in. To round off a successful day, the team came together for a well-earned BBQ, celebrating their achievement and the funds raised for two fantastic causes.
