Grassroots support: VolkerStevin funding helps historic bowling club gear up for the season

One of Preston’s oldest sporting institutions is stepping into the new bowling season with renewed energy, thanks to a £500 boost from the VolkerStevin Community Giving Pot.

Established in 1846, the club has been a cornerstone of local sport for generations. Its rich history includes members such as three former mayors of Preston, a Preston North End (PNE) chairman, and even a PNE player‑manager. Today, the club continues to thrive with 64 active members, competing across nine teams in the Preston area.

The funding has been put to practical and immediate use. Volunteers purchased a huge bag of grass seed, a new seed spreader, and a liquid grass feeder, all essential for preparing and maintaining the green as the new season begins. A small amount of the grant also supported security improvements, helping safeguard the grounds for years to come.

Entirely volunteer‑run, the club’s members take pride in maintaining the bowling green and surrounding areas themselves. With fresh investment in the green and a busy season ahead, the club continues to honour its long legacy while remaining firmly rooted in the community.

As part of our commitment to giving back, VolkerStevin actively supports local causes in the communities where our teams live and work, making this contribution a meaningful investment in both heritage and community wellbeing.
