Energy

We are helping the UK move towards a zero-carbon and energy-secure future by connecting new offshore wind farms to the national grid and by maintaining old, and developing new, nuclear power facilities.

We have extensive experience in managing the design, installation and commissioning of vital energy infrastructure. We are a specialist extra-high voltage underground cable installation contractor, providing customers with optimal design solutions for cable systems up to and including 400kV. Our focus is on underground cabling works within substations, across land pipeline installations for offshore and onshore wind farms, and between-country interconnectors.

We have delivered the onshore cabling scope associated with some of the UK’s largest offshore wind farms in recent years, including Hornsea 2 and Moray East. We are also a partner on National Grid’s £1.5 billion Electricity Construction Framework, on Lot 2 Undergrounding, where our scope includes new build undergrounding routes, route replacement and route decommissioning.

Our range of experience and access to Europe’s largest fleets of drilling rigs mean we can offer sustainable, safe and efficient solutions to overcome wide-ranging stakeholder, consenting and ground condition challenges. We use trenchless horizontal directional drilling techniques to navigate under existing roads, railway lines, rivers and important habitats. For example, on the East Anglia ONE Wind Farm project in Suffolk, we deployed 21 underground drills across the 37km of cable laying, winning a UK Society for Trenchless Technology award.

We return regularly to EDF Energy’s Heysham Nuclear Power Station to undertake civil engineering and maintenance projects, such as seawater cooling system statutory outages. At Hinkley Point C, we completed the pre-construction stage for a new, open-piled materials offloading facility to serve the construction of the new nuclear power station. Our teams of suitably qualified and experienced people (SQEP) understand and meet the unique safety and security challenges of working in nuclear environments.
