Recent

The Lancaster and District Design Awards recognise projects, both public and private, whose external design and appearance enhance the built environment of areas within the Lancaster district.

Some of our VBA team attended the awards evening on Thursday 23 May at The Storey, Lancaster, and were very proud to be presented with an award for their work on the Morecambe Wave Reflection Wall.

The Morecambe Wave Reflection Wall Replacement was a £10.8m scheme on Morecambe’s seafront, delivered under the Water and Environment Management (WEM) framework for the client, Lancaster City Council. The scheme included the design and build replacement of 5km of deteriorating existing wall and an upgrade to the existing promenade public realm to reduce flood risk.

VBA delivered a high-quality scheme, with huge benefits in flood protection and public realm enhancements, whilst managing to positively engage and contribute to the local community.

The awards, which have been running for over 25 years, are organised by the Lancaster and District Chamber of Commerce, Lancaster Civic Society and the Lancaster and Westmorland Society of Architects (LAWSA).

Julian Wilson, VBA contracts manager, said: “We underwent an extensive design process to ensure that the wave wall fitted into the public realm and transformed the Morecambe seafront – it’s great that this award recognises that. Hopefully the first of many awards for this fantastic project!”

The Morecambe Wave Wall project has also been shortlisted in the British Construction Industry Awards, Project Excellence Awards and Construction News Awards – Good luck to the team!
