C2V+, a VolkerStevin and CH2M joint venture, and VBA, a VolkerStevin, Boskalis Westminster and Atkins joint venture, each won an award for the works delivered on Anchorsholme Park Storage Tank Phase 1 for United Utilities and Revealing the Roch for Rochdale Borough Council.

VBA won two NWRCA awards in the category areas; Heritage and Manchester Sub-Regional Project of the Year for Revealing the Roch. The Rochdale project was submitted for its excellence in planning, restoration and defence measures. The project involved uncovering two sections of the river, and the restoration of a 14th century masonry bridge to reduce flood risk and provide a new public space around the conservation area.

Mark Gardner, framework director of VBA, said: “We are very proud to have won two awards out of three for the project. To gain such recognition for our work is a real testament to our site team and the local community who engaged in the project.”

Head Judge, Professor Peter McDermott, commented: “We were highly impressed by this stunning project - a heritage led regeneration project. Detailed evidence was provided of not only the physical works but of the great care and attention given to the archaeology and local economic impacts.”

C2V+ also won an award, in the category area Lancashire Sub-Regional Project of the Year. The Anchorsholme project was submitted for the highest levels of technical achievement, innovation and best practices. The scheme will provide improvements to the quality of bathing water along the Fylde coast and reduce the number of discharges during the bathing season. It involved the design and construction of an offline detention tank, discharge chamber, associated pump return mains and above ground control kiosks.

Darren Hynes, director of C2V+, said: “We are honoured to win this award and be credited for the technical works done, collaboration with the community and meeting deadlines on time and within budget. This was a special submission for C2V+ as it was our first project for client United Utilities and fantastic recognition for the services we provide.”

McDermott further commented: “In addition to the technical achievements at the Anchorsholme project, we complement the efforts towards implementing constructing excellence principles and applaud the team who worked collaboratively with the water storage and pipeline specialist subcontractor.”

The NWRCA was hosted by the University of Salford, the Centre for Construction Innovation and Constructing Excellence. The night saw 16 Award winners and three Highly Commended finalists rewarded for their accomplishments.

The NWRCA provides an exclusive opportunity for the North West built environment sector to celebrate outstanding examples of excellence, innovation and best practice and has been hosting this event for 10 years.
