Long-term relationships
We seek to build long-term relationships with our suppliers to drive down costs and drive up quality by:
- Gradual establishment of better and more collaborative ways of working together so the skills within the supply chain can be utilised more effectively and the construction process optimised to eliminate waste in time, labour and materials thus reducing the cost of the project.
- Early and continuous involvement of supply chain partners in the planning and design of a project.
- Optimal selection and specification of equipment and materials (not just on D&C Jobs but also on traditional projects where we should seek better value to the budget holder by offering alternatives, be it materials, construction methods or whatever).
- Ensuring the supply chain is fully involved in the development of costs and associated risks.
For suppliers who are in fact sub-contractors, the sub-contract form we prefer wherever possible is the NEC Form of sub-contract which encompasses a spirit of mutual trust and co-operation. We encourage collaborative working to develop costs and whenever necessary pain/gain arrangement to incentivise improvement.
Once appointed, VolkerStevin treats its supply chain partners as though they were our own in-house employees. They are expected to attend site specific inductions, method statement and risk assessment briefings, safety meetings, tool-box talks and site safety briefings and contribute to safety on the site and demonstrate the same safety culture and commitment as our own teams.
