VolkerStevin has vast experience in the defence and coast construction of flood defence projects throughout the UK in both urban and rural areas.
Flood and coastal defence projects include:
Working in fluvial waters uses many of the skills that we developed over many years of undertaking marine and coastal protection projects. Flood defence projects are frequently undertaken in highly sensitive areas where there are environmental constraints or where the work is adjacent to residential or business areas. We take great pride in our careful approach to both the environment and third parties. Many of our flood defence projects have received awards in a range of categories such as environment, health and safety and quality of work.
VBA is a joint venture comprising VolkerStevin, Boskalis Westminster and Atkins. It is an established Asset Delivery Partner on the Environment Agency’s (EA) national Water and Environment Management (WEM) framework and specialises in designing and constructing sustainable flood and coastal defences.
Our team has been assembled to provide a full range of services throughout the UK to reduce flood risk whilst securing wider environmental and social benefits. We deliver; flood and coastal erosion risk management functions, emergency works, river re-alignment, dredging, beach nourishment, habitat protection and creation, and flood defence works.
The VBA partners each bring to the joint venture a wide range of skills and expertise.
This allows VBA to offer clients, such as the EA, internal drainage boards, local authorities and Defra delivery bodies, a comprehensive end-to-end service.
VolkerStevin is also one of three companies on National Grid's Substation Flood Defence Framework which involves designing and constructing flood defences to its most critical assets across the UK. This four year, £80 million, framework sees VolkerStevin protect National Grid assets such as sub stations and power distribution centres which are located in flood risk areas and local flood plains.
We also work closely with local authorities delivering flood and coastal defence schemes and have recently completed the £30M White Cart flood alleviation scheme for Glasgow City Council; the £13M Colwyn Bay coastal defence scheme and a £10M coastal defence project at Felixstowe for Waveney District Council.
We are also currently delivering a number of other coastal projects such as the £36M Clacton to Holland-on-Sea coastal defence scheme, the £6.3M Kirkcaldy Sea Wall Repairs contract for Fife Council and the £3.8M Cromar Coast Defence scheme for North Norfolk Council.
