VolkerStevin employees raised a huge amount for Derian House children’s hospice. A cheque with a grand total of £2,613.57 was presented to the charity earlier this month.

Each year VolkerStevin selects a charity to support and raise money for throughout the year to aid the ones that need it most. The chosen charity for 2015 was Derian House children’s hospice, based in Chorley.

The VolkerStevin team got involved in various activities and raised as much money as possible so that the children and young adults could continue to receive excellent care, equipment and toys.

Dress down Friday was a huge success, where the employees dressed down and contributed £2 each towards the charity total once a month. Homemade cakes were baked with a pot placed beside them saying ‘delve in and donate to Derian’. The company also sold raffle tickets at the Christmas party priced at £10 a ticket and raised over £1,000 that night alone.

Managing director of VolkerStevin, Rob Coupe said: “As a civil engineering company one of our aims is to provide high quality solutions; raising as much money as we did for Derian House enables them to provide the same for the children and young adults under their care. I am very proud of all our employees for getting involved. Working with Derian House has been a pleasure.”

Representatives from VolkerStevin went to sign the charity cheque last month and were delighted to be shown a tour of the grounds and meet some of the children. Community fundraiser for Derian House, Joanne Moss said: “89 pence in the pound is spent on the provision of care at Derian House. Without help from VolkerStevin we wouldn’t function. We can carry on supporting the children and giving them what they need, so thanks for your amazing contribution. It is all about helping children to have good moments and have fun.”

Derian House children’s hospice provides respite care and independent living for children and adults up to the age of 26. The charity also offers ‘Derian at home’ for parents and family as well as end of life care for children and adults at the hospice.
