Complex structures

The construction of technically challenging structures such as bridges, shafts and retaining systems forms a core part of our portfolio.

As main contractor for the £18M Gateshead Millennium Bridge, we used all of our skills to highly acclaimed effect. The bridge is now a world-famous landmark and has to date received over 20 awards for excellence in design and construction. Similarly, we were main contractor on the Blackpool Central Corridor Works and used VolkerBrooks formwork expertise to complete the two 60ft high award winning climbing wall structures. We are also main contractor on the refurbishment and maintenance of the Thames Barrier gate structures, which involves complex access and egress requirements and stringent health, safety and environmental controls throughout the works.

VolkerStevin has strong in-house engineering resources, which in combination with a culture of innovation, enable us to deliver cost-effective solutions for our clients. We make extensive use of technology and use advanced planning and design software in all our projects. In this way we can manage risk effectively and give our clients a high level of confidence that their project will be delivered on time and to budget.

Other recent challenging projects that we have undertaken include the design and construction of the Prescott Lock, the manufacture, flotation and submersion of four pre-fabricated tunnel units for the Tyne Tunnel and preparation work for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
